Cape TownAt Inversion, we are no strangers to rugby - just ask our founders.
So when Villager FC, a Cape-Town based rugby club, approached us looking for a new website and rebranded online presence, we jumped at the opportunity.
We knew that keeping the history of the club at the forefront was tantamount, but a fresh and professional look and feel was needed. With our expertise in the field of rugby, we were able to dig deep with our research and passion for this project.
Our Customised Journey
We began by researching the Villager FC brand, looking at both local and international clubs to see what the trends were.
Our team also performed in-depth SEO research into what keywords their target audience was using, what type of content was receiving the most engagement, and what the different clubs were doing on various platforms.
We realised that Villager FC needed a brand identity that highlighted its history as one of the oldest rugby clubs in South Africa, but which was also modern enough to attract younger players.
The website also needed to provide regular news, results, team sheets, and player information.
What Did We Deliver?
To help Villager FC reposition their brand and increase their online presence, we developed a website that was content-rich and that provided a seamless user experience. We wanted to incorporate original content from the club’s archives to set Villager FC apart from the crowd.
Luckily, the club had thousands of assets from the 1800s up until the present day, which we used throughout the overall website design.
We made use of the club colours to guide our branding strategy and combined this with a fresh, modern look to appeal to younger audiences. We collaborated with At Pace design (a design agency in Brookside which creates high-end logos and labels) to create website designs and a logo which incorporated these colours, as well as the club name, to further appeal to the audience.
Driving Engagement With A Revitalised Brand
To drive more traffic to the new, user-friendly website, we created Facebook marketing strategies. We also made use of Twitter, Instagram, and even Snapchat to win the social media space for the club. Villager FC was one of the first rugby clubs to have an Instagram and Snapchat presence, with an interested and active following.
We created exciting, relevant, and valuable content that resonated with all of the fans, both new and old. Our creative team developed custom video content, pre- and post-match articles to garner excitement, and we developed a regular newsletter to keep old members updated.
Building An Online Presence For A Time-Honoured Club
With the help of Inversion, Villager FC had a modern, user-friendly website that showcased the history of the club while also appealing to a younger audience.
With the combination of well-thought-out content and design, the rugby club went from forgotten to front-and-centre for their target audience. The social media management helped to improve the online presence and drove traffic to the fresh new website, and we grew all social media accounts to over 2000 followers.
